PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated by Mount Saint Mary College Wednesday night, falling in straight sets to the Skyline Conference foe.
Set scores for the contest were 25-8, 25-7 and 25-16.
After cruising to wins in sets one and two, the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College (7-5 overall, 2-1 Skyline) faced stiffer resistance in set three. While the guests initially jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the frame, the Panthers (0-3, 0-2 Skyline) responded with their best run of the night, scoring 10-straight points to flip the 8-2 deficit into a 12-8 lead.
At that point, the hosts were feeling good as Mount Saint Mary called a much-needed timeout to calm the nerves. The timeout worked to perfection for the guests, as the Knights not only stopped Purchase's run, but completely flipped the script back in their favor with 10-consective points of their own.
From there, up by the score of 18-12, Mount Saint Mary held off the Panthers to secure the final set win and match.
For the game, the Knights hit .137 overall with 29 kills, while Purchase managed nine kills on -.122 hitting.
Individually for the Panthers,
Hadiyah Phillips (SR/Pleasantville, NY) and
Karina Medina (SR/Brooklyn, NY) tallied three kills apiece. Medina also added a team-high six assists, nine digs and block.
Meanwhile,
Skyla Schoppmeyer (SR/Oakdale, NY) and
Pamella Gonzalez (JR/Bronx, NY) finished with 16 and 12 digs respectively.
