PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College freshman
Rebecca Quick produced her first career hat trick to lead the women's soccer team to a 4-3 Skyline Conference victory over SUNY Maritime Saturday afternoon.
The win—a season-first for the Panthers (1-3, 1-2 Skyline)—also marked a career-first for new Panther head coach
Graham Fortunato.
Maritime (3-2, 0-2 Skyline) broke the scoring ice on a penalty kick in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Quick (Millbrook, NY) fired back four minutes later with a goal to light up the board for Purchase. With the assists from teammates
Rebecca Colgan (SR/Valley Stream, NY) and
Kristen Purcell (JR/Saquoit, NY), Quick chipped the ball over Maritime goalie Lizzie Pomaro from 15 yards out.
A minute later,
Lauren Pudelka (JR/Danbury, CT) won a tackle at midfield and connected with Quick, who found the back of the net again, giving the Panthers a 2-1 advantage.
With minutes remaining in the first half, Maritime's Kathryn Sanford scored off a cross by Kiera Ford. The goal tied the match at two apiece as both teams headed to the sideline for the break.
The Privateers struck first again in the second half, scoring the go-ahead goal at 55:10. Maritime's defense couldn't fend the Panther attack, however, as Purchase rallied with two unanswered goals to earn the 4-3 victory.
Quick netted her third and final goal on a through pass from Purcell in the 66th minute. Purcell later connected with Colgan on a long ball in the Panther attacking third. Colgan found success on a 1v1 to goal, recording the game-winner for the Panthers.
For the match, Maritime held a 15-9 advantage in shots on goal and had the edge in corner kick (2-1).
For Purchase, sophomore netminder
Haley Cascio (Deer Park, NY) earned her first career win after shutting down 12 Privateer attempts. Maritime goalkeeper Lizzie Pomaro stopped five shots in the visitors' loss.
Up next, Purchase will head to Brooklyn College on Wednesday for a non-conference game starting at 4:30 p.m.
