BRROKLYN, N.Y. – An offensive onslaught from a trio of Panther goal scorers powered the Purchase women's soccer team to a dominant 5-1 win over non-conference rival Brooklyn College on Wednesday.
The victory is the second-straight for Purchase as the Panthers move to 2-3 on the season. In defeat, the host Bulldogs drop to 0-8 overall.
Rebecca Colgan (SR/Valley Stream, NY) and
Kristen Purcell (JR/Sauquoit, NY) each scored a brace, while
Kristiana Brunder (SO/Holbrook, NY) netted the game-winner to lead the Panther attack.
Less than 10 minutes into the first half, Colgan used her speed against the last Brooklyn defender in a 1v1 to goal situation that broke open the scoring.
Alina Vazquez (FR/Saugerties, NY) recorded her first-career assist on the play.
Brunder later ripped a shot past Brooklyn goalie Angelina Vasta to push Purchase's advantage to 2-0. The eventual game-winning tally marked a career-first goal for the Panther rookie.
Purchase carried its momentum into the second half, recording a third goal less than six minutes in to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
Rebecca Quick (FR/Millbrook, NY) was awarded the assist on a pass to Purcell.
Minutes later, the duo connected again to stretch Purchase's advantage to four goals.
Colgan, with an assist from
Emily Tierney (FR/Poughkeepsie, NY), scored again in the 61st minute to make it 5-0 in favor of the visitors.
Brooklyn avoided the shutout in 67th minute as junior midfielder, Rachel Gomez, placed a perfect through ball for sophomore back, Priscilla Vixama, who would go in for her second goal of the season.
Purchase fired 17 of its 24 shots on target, while Brooklyn put nine of its 12 on frame.
Haley Cascio (SO/Deer Park, NY) recorded eight stops in net for Purchase.
The Panthers will return to Skyline Conference play at home against St. Joseph's College (LI) on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m.
