Panthers Back in Win Column with 6-3 Victory Over MSMC

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team defeated visiting Mount Saint Mary College, 6-3, in a Skyline Conference dual match on Saturday.

With the victory, the Panthers jump back into the win column at 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline, while the Knights fall to 3-1 and 0-1 in the league.

Purchase opened the scoring with a win at third doubles and later took a 2-0 lead with a tally at the top flight. The Panther duo of Isabel Biagiotti (SR/Highland Mills, NY) and Julie Shuett (SR/Northport, NY) downed Grace Monahan and Katrina Imperio, 8-3, at the No. 3 spot. Nikita Kordzielewska (JR/Stepnica, Poland) and Laine Neufeld (SO/Trumbull, CT) followed with an 8-2 triumph over Carly Green and Julia Flynn at first doubles.

MSMC picked up its first point at second doubles as Katie Murray and Victoria Valencia battled to an 8-5 win over Olivia Menchell (FR/Weston, CT) and Elaina Coppola (SO/White Plains, NY).

Mount tied the match at 2-2 after recording a 6-2, 6-0 decision at third singles, but Coppola pushed Purchase back out in front, 3-2, with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the sixth position. Menchell made it 4-2 in favor of the home team with 6-3, 6-3 victory at the third spot. The standout rookie remains undefeated, 4-0, on the season.

Kordzielewska's 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 flight secured the match decision for Purchase.

Neufeld had a notable performance at second singles, despite being tagged with the 3-6, 6-4, 16-14 super set tiebreaker loss.

Purchase returns to its home court on Tuesday as the Panthers get set to host Baruch College for a non-conference matchup starting at 3 p.m.
