NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's basketball team returned to the court Monday night for the first time in 2022, falling to the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College by the score of 82-20.
With the result in the Skyline Conference matchup, the Panthers dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in league games. Meanwhile, Mount St. Mary improved to 9-2 and 7-0, respectively.
Purchase entered the contest with just five players available —
Ariella Johnson (SO/Brooklyn, NY),
Karina Medina (SR/Brooklyn, NY),
Alyssa Aurora (SR/Ossining, NY),
Kasia Morrison (SO/Bronx, NY) and
Jules Martinez (SR/Brooklyn, NY) — forcing the quintet to play all 40 minutes.Â
With the lack of depth and the skill of the opponent, the Panthers found themselves in a hole early and weren't able to dig their way out. In the opening quarter, the hosts outscored Purchase, 29-0, before pushing the margin to 55-6 at the halftime break.
On the night, Purchase got nine points and three steals from Johnson, while Medina added nine points and seven rebounds.Â
Up next for the Panthers is a home matchup with Mount Saint Vincent on January 15th. That game is scheduled to begin at noon and you can follow along here.Â
