PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated by John Jay College Friday night, dropping the non-conference matchup in straight sets.
Set scores for the contest were 25-18, 25-11 and 25-15. With the result, the Panthers dropped to 2-14 overall, while the Bloodhounds improved to 11-8.
To begin the night, the two sides kept the action close. They remained within five points of each other until the very end, when the guests scored six straight to turn a 19-18 lead into a 25-18 win.
That end-of-the-set momentum carried over into set two, as John Jay raced out to an 11-3 lead to begin the frame.
The Bloodhounds continued to cruise in the set, pushing the margin to as many as 17 points, before settling for the 25-11 victory.
The final set began like the first two, with John Jay jumping in front early. However, this time the Panthers rallied to tie the contest, tying things at 9-9.
That score didn't last long though, as the guests proceeded to score 13 of the next 16 points to edge ahead, 22-12. From there, the two sides traded points to an eventual 25-15 result.
For the match, Purchase tallied 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .019. For the Bloodhounds, they recorded 27 kills and .190 mark.Â
Individually,
Lilith Bastek-Ochoa (SO/Sag Harbor, NY) totaled a team-high six kills.Â
Lauren White (JR/Washington, DC) added five kills and six digs, while
Karina Medina (SR/Brooklyn, NY) collected 14 assists and two aces in the loss.Â
Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference action, as they travel to St. Joseph's University-Long Island on October 17th. That match is set to begin at 7Â p.m.
