PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 Skyline Conference decision to neighboring Manhattanville College Saturday afternoon at home.
Purchase (5-7, 2-6 Skyline) recorded the first shot on goal—a bomb off the right foot of rookie
Julieth Velasquez (FR/White Plains, NY)—but was stopped by Manhattanville goalie Macey Girard.
Less than two minutes later, Manhattanville (6-7-1, 6-2-1 Skyline) opened up the scoring with a penalty kick taken by Alexa Devlin.
Over the next 16 minutes, Purchase deflected a slew of shots and forced a pair of offsides against the visitors. Manahattanville, however, outshot the Panthers 15-2 in the opening 45 minutes and would find the back of the net three more times to close the half with a 4-0 lead.
Both teams went scoreless in the second half, with Manhattanville holding an 18-2 edge in shots and 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Starting in goal for Purchase,
Carolyn Hough (FR/Massapequa, NY) recorded four saves while giving up just as many.
Haley Cascio (SR/Deer Park, NY) finished with a clean sheet after tallying five saves over the final 45 minutes of action.
Up next, Purchase heads to Kings Point, N.Y. for a Skyline Conference game against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The matchup is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
