KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Tuesday evening, falling to the Skyline Conference foe in straight sets.
Set scores for the contest were 25-1, 25-7 and 25-10.
It was a tough night for the Panthers (3-17 overall, 2-8 Skyline) from the very beginning, as the hosts opened with 19-straight points.
In set two, Purchase rebounded by securing early leads of 3-2 and 4-3, until USMMA (13-6, 9-1 Sky) responded with a vengeance via a 13-1 run to regain full control of the frame.
The Panthers then managed to score twice in a row cutting the lead to 16-7, before the Mariners closed out the set with nine consecutive points.
The final set of the night saw the best performance for Purchase, as the guests collected 10 points in the effort.
For the match, the team finished with eight kills overall, with
Samantha Fasce (SR/Yorktown Heights, NY) and
Lauren White (JR/Washington, D.C.) each tallying two apiece.
White also added six digs, while
Karina Medina (SR/Brooklyn, NY) added seven digs, six assists and an ace.
Up next for the Panthers is the team's season finale on October 27th, as they welcome St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn to campus. That matchup is set to begin at 7 p.m.
