PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets Monday night, falling to the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference showdown.
Set scores for the match were 25-12, 25-23 and 25-18.
With the result, the Purchase Panthers fell to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in the league. For the Old Westbury Panthers, they improved to 3-5 and 2-2, respectively.
The guests set the tone early on the night by scoring the first four points of the contest.
While the hosts were able to tie things up later on at 6-6, the visiting Panthers used a 19-6 run to seal the opening set, 25-12.
Despite the lopsided affair of the first frame, the hosting Panthers responded well in set two to keep things close until the final point.Â
Throughout the stanza, neither side possessed a lead bigger than five points as the lead changed hands seven times.
Entering the final stretch, Purchase rallied from a 21-19 hole to grab the lead 23-22, before the guests pulled out three-straight points to steal the match, 25-23.
In the final set, the action played out strikingly similar to the first, as the guests once again opened the frame with the first four points, before Purchase tied the contest up at 6-6.Â
From there, Old Westbury used an 18-8 run to push the frame to set point at 24-14. Purchase extended the action with four-straight points, before succumbing to the guests, 25-18.
For the night, the blue and orange Panthers tallied 16 kills and a .038 hitting mark, while the green and white Panthers finished with marks of 37 and .131, respectively.

Samantha Fasce (SR/Yorktown Heights, NY) finished with a team-high nine kills and two aces, andÂ
Karina Medina (SR/Brooklyn, NY) collected team-high totals in assists (12), digs (9) and blocks (2).Â
