RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent topped visiting Purchase College, 3-0, in Skyline action Wednesday night.

The Dolphins opened with a 25-16 victory in the first set, escaped a nail biter in game two, 25-21, and would later close out the league contest with a 25-12 win in the third set.

CMSV's Melaniean Broderick paced the home team in the opening set with five service aces and three kills. Stacy Njimogu and Katelynn Fanjul also aided the Dolphin attack with four kills apiece.

After a Panther error awarded CMSV an early 2-1 lead, the Dolphins carried the advantage for the remainder of the set en route to the 25-16 win.

Purchase lit up the board first in the second set on a Maria Kuprikova (SR/New Rochelle, NY) kill. Back-and-forth runs would play out from both benches resulting in three lead changes and a slew of tied scores. The final exchange came at 17-16 in favor of the hosts. Despite a valiant effort from Purchase, CMSV would hold a narrow edge the rest of the way.

In the third set, the Panthers were again the first to score but the Dolphin offense erupted midway with seven unanswered points to lead 12-4. The hosts stretched it to 21-6, putting PC out of a comeback possibility, before securing the match-victory with a set score of 25-12.

For the match, Njimogu paced the Dolphin squad with 10 kills (.292), while Fanju and Elizabeth Flores each had eight kills. Broderick finished with a match-high eight aces, to go along with 10 digs and five kills.  

For Purchase, Samantha Fasce (SR/Yorktown Heights, NY) led with six kills and an equal number of digs. Lauren White (JR/Washington, DC) tallied four kills and tied with Panther setter Karina Medina (SR/Brooklyn, NY) for a match-best 11 digs. Medina tossed up 14 assists, while Kuprikova produced four kills and a match-high block assists (2).

The Panthers are back on the road again tomorrow—this time at Western Connecticut State University for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
