PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's basketball team honored a quartet of seniors Thursday evening for Senior Night, before falling to Brooklyn College in the final non-conference matchup of the season.
While the typical format for Senior Night is to honor the players before the game starts, the festivities had to be postponed until halftime because families were delayed by traffic.
Luckily, everyone arrived by the midway break to see head coach
Varrell Eddie serenade his four seniors -
Miya Ritchie (Harlem, NY),
Jules Martinez (Brooklyn, NY),
Shadai Plowden (Yonkers, NY) and
Alyssa Aurora (Ossining, NY) - with praise and tales of their journey together.
During the speech, the seniors and their families received gifts, shared laughs and tears, and posed for photos to commemorate the experience.
Outside of the Senior Night ceremony, the Panthers were beaten by the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College by the score of 99-25.
In the opening quarter, Brooklyn (19-3 overall) outscored Purchase, 26-7. The second frame was nearly identical at 26-5, as the guests carried a 52-12 lead into the halftime break.
Individually, Ritchie led Purchase with 11 points in the loss.
Martinez added six points and four rebounds, while Aurora tallied three rebounds and a steal.
Plowden missed the contest and much of the season due to injury.
With the result, the Panthers are now 2-21 overall and 2-17 in the Skyline Conference heading into their season finale.
Purchase closes out the 2021-22 campaign against Mount Saint Vincent at noon on February 19th and you can follow along right here.
