Purchase Drops Non-Conference Matchup to Nichols

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team lost to Nichols College Monday afternoon, falling in the non-conference matchup by the score of 10-2.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 0-2 overall, while the Bison of Nichols improved to 3-1.

The guests struck first on the day scoring in the first minute, before doubling that margin just three minutes later.

Shauna Meehan (JR/Suffern, NY) and Purchase managed a response later in the opening quarter, as Meehan found the back of the net off a feed from Madison Buttice (JR/Bethpage, NY).

Following the Panther goal, the Bison responded with four-straight strikes over the final minutes of the first period into the second quarter.

Purchase then answered with a goal right before halftime, as Buttice scored on a free-position shot with one minute to go. At the break, the Panthers trailed 6-2.

Once the second half began, Nichols' defense came alive and limited Purchase the rest of the way. Over the final 30 minutes, the Bison held the hosts scoreless, while outscoring them, 4-0, to secure the 10-2 win.

Buttice led the effort for the Panthers, as she finished with two points (1g, 1a), four ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.

In goal, Casandra Schmoger (JR/Islip, NY) set a career high with 22 saves. She also collected three ground balls in the loss.

Up next for Purchase is a third-straight non-conference home game, this time against Mitchell College. That contest is set for March 23rd at 4 p.m. and you can follow along here.
