Men's Lax Suffers First Loss of 2022

ROSEMONT, PA - The Purchase College men's lacrosse team collected its first loss of the season Wednesday afternoon, falling to Rosemont College by the score of 12-8.

With the non-conference loss, the Panthers dropped to 3-1 on the year. As for the Ravens of Rosemont, they now sit at 3-4 overall.

Rosemont rushed out to big lead to start the day, scoring the game's first four goals over the opening six minutes.

From there, Purchase answered with the final two strikes of the period, one from Zach Collins (FR/Victor, NY) and the other from Joe Ely (JR/North Salem, NY), to trim the margin in half.

After an early strike from the hosts started the second quarter, the Panthers responded with another pair of goals, this time from Ben Erkan (SR/Bellport, NY) and Ely, to make the deficit, 5-4.

However, that was as close as Purchase got the rest of the way, as the Ravens proceeded to closeout the second quarter with three straight-tallies, making it 8-4 at halftime.

In the second half, the guests got within three goals, but Rosemont held them off for the eventual win, 12-8. Purchase was edged in nearly every team battle on the day, as the Ravens controlled face-offs, ground balls and caused turnovers.

Individually, Ely led the Panthers with four points (3g, 1a), four ground balls and a caused turnover. Cristian Ishoo (SR/Tarrytown, NY) added two goals and an assists in the defeat.

On defense, Riley Donovan (SO/Billerica, MA) collected seven ground balls and caused four turnovers, while Will Boes (FR/Pleasantville, NY) set a new career-high for saves with 20.

Up next for the Panthers is more road action down in Pennsylvania, as the team battles Cairn University on March 20th. That road contest is set to begin at 1 p.m. and you can follow along here.
