LANGHORNE, PA – Senior
Cristian Ishoo led all scorers with four points and freshman
Will Boes turned aside six shots to lead the Purchase College men's lacrosse team to an 8-4 victory at non-conference Cairn University Sunday afternoon.
Ishoo (Tarrytown, NY) was one of two multi-goal scorers for Purchase (4-1) on the afternoon, joining senior
Ben Erkan (Bellport, NY) with two goals while also adding a pair of assists. Erkan recorded the game-winning goal (unassisted) four minutes into the third quarter.
Senior
Connor Schwenker (Westhampton Beach, NY), juniors
Joe Ely (North Salem, NY) and
Angus Goldman (Palisades, NY) and freshman
Zach Collins (Victor, NY) rounded out the Panther scoring with one goal apiece.
Boes (Pleasantville, NY) picked up his fourth win of the season, making six saves on 10 on-target attempts. The rookie netminder shut down all three Cairn (0-3) attempts in the fourth quarter—holding the hosts scoreless over the final 15 minutes of action.
Cairn opened the game strong, scoring the first two goals of the game in under 11 minutes to lead 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second stanza, the Highlander advantage was quickly erased as Schwenker and Ely combined for two goals—both off feeds from Ishoo.
Cairn answered back with goal from Charles Cotton, but Purchase evened the score again (3-3) with an unassisted tally from Collins.
After a halftime break—one that proved to be motivational for the visitors—Purchase rattled off two unanswered goals 30 seconds apart to take its first lead of the game, 5-3.
Cairn slipped one past Boes with 8:54 left in the third quarter (5-4), but Purchase would outscore the hosts, 3-0, the rest of the way to secure the 8-4 victory.
Purchase finished the game with a 44-22 edge in total shots. The Panthers were nearly perfect (18 of 20) in clear attempts and picked up 47 ground balls to Cairn's 35.
Purchase will return to action on Saturday (Mar. 26) at noon, when the team plays host to non-conference Anna Maria College.
