Men's Lax Suffers Home Defeat to Anna Maria

PURCHASE, N.Y. – A 7-0 run that bridged the third and fourth quarter broke open a tie game as the visiting Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team went on to defeat Purchase College, 10-3, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides went scoreless for majority of the opening quarter before Anna Maria (3-4) slipped one past Purchase rookie goalie Will Boes (FR/Pleasantville, NY) with 1:51 left on the clock. The visitors' Nick Massaro recorded the unassisted tally—his ninth of the season.

Purchase (4-2) fired back with a pair of goals in the second quarter to take a 2-1 lead. Senior attacker Conor Schwenker (Westhampton Beach, NY) broke the scoring ice for the Panthers off the assist from freshman midfielder Andrew Agosto (Poughkeepsie, NY). Agosto connected again—this time with senior teammate Cristian Ishoo (Tarrytown, NY)—for the go-ahead goal at 7:27.

PC's lead was quickly erased however, as Anna Maria went on a 2-0 run to close the half with a 3-2 advantage.

Early in the third quarter, Schwenker found the back of the net again off the feed from Joe Ely (JR/North Salem, NY). The man-up tally tied the game at 3-3.

Less than a minute later, Anna Maria's Liam Bedenkop recorded his first goal of the season and what would eventually become the game-winning goal for the visitors. The unassisted tally ignited an offensive surge from AM as the team poured in another six unanswered shots over the final 25 minutes of regulation time to secure the 10-3 win.

Despite being tagged with the loss, Boes (4-2) recorded a notable 17 saves in goal for Purchase. Anna Maria netminder Griffin Moore (3-4) finished with 12 saves.

Purchase is off from games this week and will return to action next Saturday (Apr. 2) a noon for the Skyline Conference opener at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
