In the Panther Spotlight: Purchase Celebrates National Athletic Training Month

PURCHASE, N.Y. – As National Athletic Training Month comes to an end, Purchase College Athletics would like to recognize the immense contributions from the Panther ATC staff: Head Athletic Trainer Sherry Llauger and Assistant Athletic Trainer Jenna Iannacci.

Do you think an athletic trainer just knows how to stretch muscles or tape ankles? Well, think again.

Highly educated and dedicated to the job at hand, Llauger and Iannacci play an essential role in providing quality health care for our student-athletes and staff every day. They are committed to helping people prevent and recover from injuries, stay healthy and active, and most recently, leading the way with COVID-19 protocols.

Purchase Athletics would like to salute our athletic trainers as they continue to provide resources for the health and well-being of the Panther community.

To Sherry Llauger and Jenna Iannacci, you are both appreciated and applauded. Happy National Athletic Training Month!

"The athletic trainers make the training room a fun and loving place. Sherry is like a mother to me and I know that I can go to her for anything."- Junior Karina Medina '23 (Brooklyn, NY), Women's Volleyball, Basketball, Softball

"I was the only pitcher on the softball team last year and my body was threatening to fall apart at the seams. Sherry and Jenna worked on me and my muscles every single day so that I could go out there and pitch to the best of my ability. They have been vital to keeping my softball college dream a reality. It's a goal you put 10+ years of work into to be able to play for four years—a devastatingly small amount of time. An injury can take a year or more away from you in an instant. The threat of injury is terrifying. Sherry and Jenna have not only helped me nurse my injuries for a speedy recovery but have kept me from further injury. Their constant willingness to help me and their overwhelming support on and off the field helps me play to the best of my potential. They allow me to make the most of the four years of softball I am given. They're just as much a part of the team as the players in uniform or the coaches that teach us. We got very lucky to have such amazing athletic trainers."- Senior Kelly Agostini '22 (Centereach, NY), Softball

"Whenever I have an injury I can go to Sherry and Jenna and they are always friendly and helpful to get my injury treated and me ready to get back on the court and play."- Senior Joe Higgins '22 (Bayside, NY), Men's Volleyball

"The athletic trainers make me feel heard and I appreciate everything they've done for me both in athletics and in life."- Senior Alexandria Perez '22 (Bronx, NY), Softball

"Sherry and Jenna have taken care of me from start to finish through my injuries. They have come up with new ways to help me get my mobility back and alleviate pain post-op. I can't thank them enough for all that they do for me!- Junior Michelle Gomez '23 (Oceanside, NY), Women's Soccer

"Jenna always goes above and beyond as our athletic trainer. I'll walk in and even if the training room is packed with other athletes, she always finds a way to help every single person without complaint."- Junior Brianna Palermo '23 (Hyde Park, NY), Softball

"From the moment I stepped onto campus this summer to get my concussion testing before the season started, Jenna and Sherry made me feel welcomed! I know I can count of them to help me with an injury or just help me with a bad day! We are so unbelievably lucky to have them, they truly go above and beyond for us!" - Junior Shauna Meehan '23 (Suffern, NY), Women's Lacrosse

"Jenna from the day has gone above and beyond for me especially with my epilepsy...and with me being a pitcher, Jenna puts up with me and my many injuries and soreness and it's something I'm extremely grateful for...Sherry jokes with me and although she can be tough on me (it's needed most times), I'm extremely grateful for everything she does for us."- Junior Tara Sasso '23 (North Rockland, NY), Softball
