MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Purchase College baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games Thursday afternoon, falling to the Cavaliers of Cabrini University by the scores of 6-2 and 14-2.
With the results, the Panthers are now 0-4 overall, while Cabrini improved to 8-3.
Game 1 - Cabrini 6, Purchase 2 (7 inn.)
An early deficit was the trend of the day for the Panthers, as the Cavaliers jumped ahead in the top of first with an RBI-single. Two frames later, Cabrini more than doubled that margin, notching three more runs in the third to lead 4-0.
The Cavaliers then added a two-run home run in the fifth to push the lead out to 6-0, before the Panthers managed an answer of their own.
That came in the sixth inning, when
James May (SR/Floral Park, NY) and
Christian Homa (SO/Fairfield, CT) hit back-to-back RBI-singles, cutting the margin to 6-2. One frame later, Cabrini held on for the victory after forcing Purchase into a 1-2-3 inning.Â
The Panthers recorded four hits in the loss, as
James Shea (SR/Brooklyn, NY) finished with a hit, a run and stolen base.
Alex Doskoez (SR/Eastport, NY) received the loss after going six innings, striking out four and allowing five earned runs.
Game 2 - Cabrini 14, Purchase 2 (7 inn.)
Following the low-scoring affair that was game one, game two saw some fireworks from the Cabrini bats, as the Cavaliers finished with 14 runs on 13 hits.
Despite the run total, the contest started slow, with Cabrini leading just 3-0 after four innings.
That changed once the teams hit the fifth though, as the Cavaliers knocked in seven runs in the frame, before a grand slam in the sixth inning pushed the lead to 14-0.
As for the Panthers' offense,
Drew Stabinsky (SO/Floral Park, NY) knocked in the only two runs of the game for PC with an RBI-single in the seventh.
Shea knocked in two hits and stole two more bases in game two, while
Louis Carvell (JR/New York, NY) finished with two hits, including a double.Â
On the mound,
Ryan Castrataro (JR/Mahopac, NY) collected the loss. He went four innings and allowed five earned runs.Â
Up next for the Panthers is the final day of The Ripken Experience down in Myrtle Beach, as they take on a fellow SUNY school, Fredonia. First pitch is set for 9 a.m. tomorrow (March 5th), with game two set to begin around noon.Â
