Panthers Bested by Mount Saint Vincent in Skyline Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated in its Skyline Conference opener Friday evening, falling to Mount Saint Vincent by the score of 19-2.

With the result, the Panthers dropped to 1-4 overall, while the Dolphins improved to 3-2 and 1-1 in the Skyline, respectively.

From the get-go, the guests cruised in the contest and never let up. Mount Saint Vincent's first goal came 11 seconds in, as the guests doubled that margin less than a minute later.

The Panthers were able to get a goal back just four minutes after, when Giavanna Cordero (SO/Selden, NY) scored off a feed from Shauna Meehan (JR/Suffern, NY), but that was as close the hosts got the rest of the way.

From there, the visitors outscored Purchase, 10-1, to closeout the opening half to lead, 12-2. The Panthers' lone strike during the run came from Madison Buttice (JR/Bethpage, NY) on an unassisted effort.

Individually, Buttice continued her dominating play for the Panthers, finishing with five ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls - all of which led the squad.

Lauren Pudelka (JR/Danbury, CT) added three ground balls, two caused turnovers and draw control in the loss.

In goal, Casandra Schmoger recorded nine saves in just over 31 minutes of action, while Amani Jamal (FR/Hopewell Junction, NY) tallied four saves in relief.

Up next for the Panthers is a 10-day break before they return to action at St. Joseph's College-Long Island. That game is set for April 11th at 6 p.m. and you can follow it here.
