THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - Junior midfielder
Madison Buttice netted all four goals for the Panthers Friday night, as the Purchase College women's lacrosse team fell to Skyline Conference foe, Maritime College, by the score of 23-4.
The opening period of the contest saw a flurry of action between the two sides, as the hosts found the back of the net eight times, and Buttice (Bethpage, NY) and the Panthers tallied three strikes over the 15-minute stanza.
A big second quarter effectively sealed the game for the hosts, as Maritime added eight goals to double its margin and lead 16-3 at the midway break.
Following halftime, Buttice tallied her fourth and final strike early in the third, before the Privateers closed out the game with seven-straight goals over the two remaining quarters.
In addition to her four unassisted goals, Buttice tallied four draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. She also recorded seven of the team's eight shots, six of which were on goal.
Sigrid Cassell (SR/Huntington, NY) collected a team-high four ground balls and caused two turnovers, while
Katie Borger (SR/Bellmore, NY) finished with three draw controls, two caused turnovers, one ground ball and one shot on goal for Purchase.
In goal,
Casandra Schmoger (JR/Islip, NY) compiled 10 saves and a ground ball in the loss.
With the result, the Panthers are now 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the Skyline. Meanwhile, Maritime jumped to 11-1 and 5-1, respectively.
