Softball Sweeps Skyline Doubleheader Against Yeshiva

PURCHASE, NY – Purchase softball made short order of Yeshiva University at home Sunday, sweeping the Maccabees in a pair of 4.5-inning games by the count of 9-0 and 11-2.

The Panthers remain undefeated in the Skyline Conference at 4-0, while advancing their overall record to an even .500 (8-8). In defeat, Yeshiva dropped to 0-13 overall and 0-6 in the league.

Senior pitcher Kelly Agostini (Centereach, NY) earned the win for both games, pushing her season record to 6-4 overall.

Game One: Purchase 9, Yeshiva 0
Purchase opened strong with eight runs in the first inning.

Brianna Palermo (JR/Hyde Park, NY) led off with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. With Olivia Audia (FR/Dover Plains, NY) at the plate, Palermo stole home to break the scoring ice in game one.

Purchase closed the inning with another seven runs on five hits, including RBI performances from Agostini, Audia, Zanaia Godette (JR/Queens, NY) and Jade D'Errico (SO/Wantagh, NY).

The Panthers lit up the board again in the bottom of the third following an Alexandria Perez (SR/Bronx, NY) fielder's choice that pushed Audia across home plate.

The hosts carried the 9-0 advantage over the next 1.5 innings to secure the win for game one.

Agostini gave up just one hit, while striking out four Maccabees over three innings of work. Sophomore closer Emily Folton (Somers, NY) allowed one hit and struck out five over the final two innings.

Yeshiva's Shai Rahamim (0-5) was tagged with the loss.

Game Two: Purchase 11, Yeshiva 2
Purchase smashed a combined 11 hits over the first and second innings to jump out to an early 10-0 lead.

Palermo led off with a double down the left field line and came around to score the opening run on a Bronzi double to center field. A Maccabee wild pitch and error allowed Bronzi to score and Agostini to reach first, respectively. Perez followed with a single and with runners at first and second, Godette hit a bomb down the left field line. The 2-RBI performance pushed PC's lead to 4-0.

A D'Errico single to second would score the final run of the inning as Rahamim fanned the next two batters, leaving D'Errico standed at second base.

In the bottom of the second, Palermo again led off—this time with a triple to center field. An error by the Yeshiva third baseman followed by a hit by pitch put Palermo at third, Audia at second and Bronzi at first base.

With the bases loaded, Agostini doubled to right field to score the first two runs of the game. Perez, Godette and Julia Marsala (SO/Shoreham, NY) followed with RBI performances to push the home team to a comfortable 10-0 advantage.

Purchase struck again in the bottom of the third and despite giving up two runs in fourth, the Panthers held on for the 11-2 edge in game two.

Returning for her fourth-consecutive start in the circle for PC, Agostini (6-4) allowed one hit while fanning three over three innings of work. Foltin closed the final two innings, giving up two runs (1 ER) on three hits with two strikeouts.

Rahamim (0-6) returned to the circle for Yeshiva in the complete-game loss.
