Purchase Falls at St. Joseph's-Long Island

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated in a Skyline Conference matchup Monday evening, falling to St. Joseph's College-Long Island by the score of 13-0.

With the result, the Panthers dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the league. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles now sit at 2-5 and 1-2, respectively.

From the get-go, the hosts raced ahead in the contest and never looked back.

St. Joseph's tallied three goals in the first quarter and two more in the second to lead 5-0 at halftime. However, it was five goals in the third quarter that all but officially sealed the game for the Golden Eagles.

The hosts added three more strikes in the fourth, while holding the Panthers off the scoreboard to secure the shutout win.

In goal, Casandra Schmoger (JR/Islip, NY) finished with 15 saves and broke the double-digit barrier for the fourth time this season.

Offensively, Madison Buttice (JR/Bethpage, NY) recorded team-high totals in shots (5), shots-on-goal (4), ground balls (4), and caused turnovers (3).

Up next for the Panthers is more road Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to Maritime College on April 15th. That game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
