Men's Lax Back in Win Column

Panthers make program history with first-ever shutout victory

LA PLUME, PA. – The Purchase College men's lacrosse team returned to its winning ways Friday afternoon, netting a 15-0 non-conference decision against Keystone College at the Turf Field Athletic Complex.

The win marked the first-ever shutout for the Panther program as the team improved to an even .500 (5-5) overall. Keystone dropped to 0-7 in defeat.

The Purchase defense was solid all game, holding the hosts to only four shots on goal and forcing 23 turnovers.

Freshman goalie Will Boes (Pleasantville, NY) recorded one save over 45 minutes of action for the win. Fellow rookie netminder Domenick Esposito (FR/Mohegan Lake, NY) picked up the other three saves over the final 15 minutes of regulation.

Purchase also played tough in the middle, holding a 14-9 edge in clears and 17-7 in face offs against the Giants.

Seven different Panthers contributed to the scoring effort. Zach Collins (FR/Victor, NY) led the charge with four goals and three assists, while Ben Erkan (SR/Bellport, NY) notched three tallies and a pair of assists. Conor Schwenker (SR/Westhampton Beach, NY) and Angus Goldman (JR/Palisades, NY) recorded two goals apiece and combined for four assists. Joe Ely (JR/North Salem, NY) and Daegan Cronin (SO/New Paltz, NY) rounded out the PC scoring with one goal apiece.

Erkan broke the scoring ice—and recorded the eventual game-winner—less than a minute into the opening quarter. Collins connected off the feed from Schwenker with 2:05 left to push the visitors to a 2-0 lead.

The Panther offense erupted in the second quarter with eight goals. At the break, Purchase held a comfortable 10-0 advantage.

The Panthers closed the final 30 minutes with a combined five goals, including three in the third quarter and two in the fourth, to secure the 15-0 shutout.
