PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College dropped a Skyline Conference men's tennis match, 8-1, to league powerhouse Yeshiva University Friday afternoon at home.
In defeat, the host Panthers fall to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the Skyline. Yeshiva advanced to 8-3 overall and remain undefeated, 6-0, in the league.
The No. 1 tandem of
Julian Szuper (SR/New York, NY) and
Ben Joory (JR/Port Washington, NY) were first to finish in doubles action. Despite some notable scoring performances from the Panther duo, the win went to Yeshiva by a score of 8-2.
Billy Isidro () and
Nikita Kordzielewska (FR/Stepnica, Poland) were tagged with an 8-5 loss at third doubles, while
Simon Montalvo (SR/Valencia, Spain) and
Frederick Kaden (FR/Farmingdale, NY) battled but came up short, 8-5, against Yeshiva's Yoni Mayer and Sion Jacobo.
The Maccabees held a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play and kept the momentum going, winning 5-of-6 to secure the 8-1 victory.
Szuper recorded the lone win for Purchase—a commanding 7-6, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles. The victory pushes the standout senior's record to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the Skyline.
The Panthers will look to bounce back tomorrow when they play host to Skyline rival Mount Saint Mary College in a Senior Day match starting at 11 a.m.
