PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team was defeated by the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College-Long Island Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of games by the scores of 7-1 and 10-3.
Game 1 - SJC-Long Island 7, Purchase 1 (7 inn.)
The hosts opened game one with a first inning run, before extending that margin to 3-0 in the third.Â
For the Panthers (11-21 overall, 7-11 Skyline Conference), they scored their lone run in the fourth inning, after a St. Joseph's error allowed
Christian Homa (SO/Fairfield, CT) to cross the plate.Â
But from there, the hosts exploded for four runs in the fifth to push the lead to 7-1 where it finished.Â
Homa finished with a double, a walk, a stolen base and run in the effort.
On the mound,
Myles Scarry (SO/Levittown, NY) tossed a six-inning complete-game. He fanned four and allowed five earned runs in the loss.
Game 2 - SJC-Long Island 10, Purchase 3
The second game of the day played out like the first, with the Golden Eagles jumping in front early and never relenting.
During the third and fourth frames, St. Joseph's dropped nine runs on the Panthers, before Purchase finally broke the scoring streak with aÂ
Jason Sebastiano (SO/Brooklyn, NY)Â sacrifice fly in the fifth.Â
From there, the hosts added three more runs to make it 10-1, before RBIs from Homa and
James May (SR/Floral Park, NY) in the ninth pushed the margin to 10-3.
Cass Muller (SO/Brooklyn, NY) got the start for the Panthers. He went four innings, allowed nine runs and struckout two in the loss.
Up next for Purchase baseball is the season finale at Maritime College tomorrow (5/1) at 11 a.m.
