PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team was defeated by the Hawks of Hunter College Tuesday afternoon, falling in the non-conference matchup by the score of 6-3.
With the result, the Panthers now sit at 1-4 overall, while Hunter moved to 3-2.
Julian Szuper (SR/New York, NY) and
Ben Joory (JR/Port Washington, NY) provided all three wins on the day for the hosts, as the duo opened the scoring with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
From there, each player took his respective singles matchup, with Szuper cruising in the No. 1 spot - 6-2, 6-1 - and Joory taking the No. 2 matchup in a close contest - 7-5, 7-6.
Outside of the two top-flight players, the Panthers got solid performances from
Simon Montalvo (SR/ Valenica, Spain) and
Frederick Kaden (FR/Farmingdale, NY).
No. 3 Montalvo pushed the first set of his singles matchup to a 7-5 loss, while Kaden won five games across his No. 4 spot defeat.
Up next for Purchase is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team is set to welcome Yeshiva University tomorrow (4/6) at 3 p.m.
