FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team suffered a Skyline Conference loss Saturday afternoon, falling to Farmingdale State College by the score of 9-0.
With the result, the Panthers are now 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Meanwhile, the Rams improved to 3-3 and 2-1, respectively.
Despite the final score, Purchase was competitive in nearly half the matches on the day, as the hosts prevailed at the end in each one.
In doubles action, the No. 1 duo of
Julian Szuper (SR/New York, NY) and
Ben Joory (JR/Port Washington, NY) fell in a tight one, 8-6, while the No. 2 pair of
Simon Montalvo (SR/Valenica, Spain) and
Frederick Kaden (FR/Farmingdale, NY) lost by the mark of 8-5.
In singles play, Szuper earned the closest loss of the day, as he took the first set against his opponent, 6-3, before dropping the second by the same mark and falling in the tie-breaking third frame, 10-6.
At the No. 3 spot, Montalvo dropped a heartbreaker by the score of 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Up next for the Panthers is more Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to St. Joseph's College-Long Island on April 18th. That match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
