Men's Lacrosse Drops Skyline Contest to Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY – The Purchase College men's lacrosse team dropped a Skyline Conference game to neighboring Manhattanville College, 16-5, under the lights at home Friday night.

Manhattanville (2-7, 1-0 SKY) broke the scoring ice four minutes into the first quarter with an unassisted goal by senior Nick Cornelia.

Purchase (4-4, 0-2 SKY) fired back with back-to-back tallies from Joe Ely (JR/North Salem, NY) and Zach Collins (FR/Victor, NY), respectively.

The visitors didn't trail for long, netting a trio of goals in less than three minutes to take back the lead, 4-2.

With less than a minute remaining in the quarter, Cristian Ishoo (SR/Tarrytown, NY) found the back of the net off the feed from Conor Schwenker (SR/Westhampton Beach, NY) but Manhattanvile countered to close the stanza with a 5-3 advantage.

The Valiant attack kept the momentum going in the second quarter as four different players combined for six goals to open up an eight-point lead for the visitors. Cornelia led the charge with a hat trick, bringing his season total to 24.

Manhattanville held an 11-3 edge at halftime.

The visitors outscored Purchase 5-2 over the final 30 minutes en route to the Skyline victory.

Purchase was led by Collins with two goals, while Ely, Ishoo and Angus Goldman (JR/Palisades, NY) combined for the other three tallies.

Cornelia paced Manhattanville with a notable eight goals and one assist. Jesse McGrath chipped in with four goals, while Matt Schnieder added a pair and Harris and Sean Larkin combined for another two.

Panther netminder Will Boes (FR/Pleasantville, NY) was tagged with Friday's loss, dropping his season record to an even .500 (4-4). He finished with eight saves, while Manhattanville starter Jason Frezza (2-7) collected 11 saves en route to his second win of the season.

Purchase returns to its home turf on Tuesday (Apr. 12) to take on Mount Saint Mary College in a Skyline matchup starting at 6 p.m.
