PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team earned a convincing win Wednesday night, rolling past the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College, 4-0.
With the victory, the Panthers moved to 2-0 on the young season, while Brooklyn fell to 0-5-1 overall.
Purchase was fueled on the night via braces from
Luca Li Vigni (FR/Staten Island, NY) and
Marlon Matute (SO/Staten Island, NY), as the duo led the offensive onslaught.
Li Vigni opened the scoring with a one-timed strike off a
Leo Conte (JR/New York, NY) cross in the 20th minute, before Matute found the back of the net in the 27th via a free-kick cross into the box.
Matute later doubled his total off another set piece, this time knocking in a corner kick to push Purchase ahead, 3-0, in the 60th minute.
Finally, Li Vigni completed the scoring with his second in the 86th minute to complete the dominating win. In total, Purchase outshot Brooklyn, 43-13 overall and 19-5 on goal.
In goal,
Travis Stella (SO/Waterbury, NY) finished with five saves and the clean sheet.
Up next for the men's soccer team is the first road game of the year, as Purchase travels to Hunter College on September 17th. That game is set to begin at noon.
