Men's Soccer Defeated by St. Joseph's-Long Island

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup Saturday afternoon, falling to St. Joseph's University-Long Island, 3-1.

With the loss, the Panthers moved to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference. As for the Golden Eagles, they improved to 5-1 and 2-0, respectively.

The guests started the day quickly, pouring in three goals in the first 32 minutes of action. Meanwhile for the Panthers, they managed just three shots on goal over the opening 45 minutes.

However, once play resumed in the second half, Purchase's offense looked reinvigorated and threatening.

With the renewed focus and energy, the hosts broke through in the 59th minute, when Devonte Dawson (SR/Yonkers, NY) lofted a ball into the box to a waiting Ethan Dillon (SR/Poughkeepsie, NY).

Dillon then collected the pass, turned left and unleashed a shot past the St. Joseph's keeper. The goal elated both, Dillon's teammates and the crowd, as each celebrated his first career strike.

Following the goal, the guests' defense recovered and stood tall over the final 30 minutes to hold Purchase at bay and seal the win.

In total, St. Joseph's outshot the Panthers, 19-15 overall, though both sides each manage six shots on goal.

Mario Olmedo (JR/East Elmhurst, NY) finished with three saves in the loss, while Leo Conte (JR/New York, NY) paced the offense with four shots (three on goal).

Up next for the men's soccer team is more home Skyline Conference action, as it hosts Manhattanville College on September 27th for the Battle of Anderson Hill Road.

That game is set to begin at 6 p.m. and you can follow it here.
