HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated by Centenary University Thursday afternoon, falling by the score of 4-1.
With the non-conference result, the Panthers moved to 3-5 overall. For the Cyclones, they now sit at 1-6-3.
Despite the loss, it was the guests that lit up the scoreboard first on the day, as
Leo Conte (JR/New York, NY) found the back of the goal in the 22nd minute.Â
Purchase then carried the 1-0 lead into the halftime break, before the guests completely flipped the script in the second period.
To begin, Centenary tied the contest with a free-kick strike in the 54th minute.
19 minutes later in the 73rd minute, the Cyclones edged ahead with a close-range goal, before finding the back of the net once again in the 77th.
The hosts then closed the contest with a strike in the 84th to push the margin to 4-1, where it finished.Â
For the day, Centenary outshot Purchase 28-9 overall, and 9-3 on goal.Â
Conte and
Colman Cassidy (SR/Brooklyn, NY) each finished with a trio of a shots, while
Mario Olmedo (JR/East Elmhurst, NY) and
Travis Stella (SO/Waterbury, NY) combined for five saves.
Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to Sarah Lawrence College on October 1st. That game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
