Purchase Falls at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated by Centenary University Thursday afternoon, falling by the score of 4-1.

With the non-conference result, the Panthers moved to 3-5 overall. For the Cyclones, they now sit at 1-6-3.

Despite the loss, it was the guests that lit up the scoreboard first on the day, as Leo Conte (JR/New York, NY) found the back of the goal in the 22nd minute.

Purchase then carried the 1-0 lead into the halftime break, before the guests completely flipped the script in the second period.

To begin, Centenary tied the contest with a free-kick strike in the 54th minute.

19 minutes later in the 73rd minute, the Cyclones edged ahead with a close-range goal, before finding the back of the net once again in the 77th.

The hosts then closed the contest with a strike in the 84th to push the margin to 4-1, where it finished.

For the day, Centenary outshot Purchase 28-9 overall, and 9-3 on goal.

Conte and Colman Cassidy (SR/Brooklyn, NY) each finished with a trio of a shots, while Mario Olmedo (JR/East Elmhurst, NY) and Travis Stella (SO/Waterbury, NY) combined for five saves.

Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to Sarah Lawrence College on October 1st. That game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
