Panthers Cruise to Win at York

JAMAICA, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team cruised to a win at York College Friday night, besting the non-conference opponent in straight sets.

Scores for the victory were 25-10, 25-10 and 25-16.

To begin the triumph, the Panthers (2-9) scored three-straight points and were off to the races from there.

In set one alone, the guests used six different three-point runs to cruise to the set advantage.

Set two was even more dominant for Purchase, as the team opened the stanza by scoring the first six points and 16 of the first 20, en route to another 25-10 win.

In the final set, York (0-10) played its best stretch of the night early on to keep within one point of the Panthers at 10-9.

However, Purchase pulled away from that point with some of its best hitting of the match, finishing with 11 kills on .333 hitting in the frame.

Overall, the Panthers hit .232 for the match with 25 kills, while the Cardinals managed seven kills on a -.118 percentage.

Service aces were also a key ally for Purchase on the night, as the guests finished with 18 across the sets.

Individually, Samantha Fasce (SR/Yorktown Heights, NY) led all players with 16 points (12 kills, three aces and a block) in the win.

Karina Medina (SR/Brooklyn, NY) finished with game-high marks in assists (21) and aces (6), while Lilith Bastek-Ochoa (SO/Sag Harbor, NY) tallied nine digs, four aces and three kills.

Up next for the women's volleyball team is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team hosts Old Westbury on October 3rd. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m. and you can follow it here.
