PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated by Farmingdale State College Wednesday night, dropping the Skyline Conference matchup by the score of 3-1.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 7-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the league. For the Rams, they jumped to 7-3-2 and 4-1-1, respectively.
After playing a nearly scoreless first half, the guests broke the deadlock just before halftime, finding the back of the net with 48 seconds remaining.
Following the break, the two sides continued to fight hard. While the Panthers surged forward trying to find an equalizer, the Rams stood firm on defense looking for a moment to counterstrike.
That chance finally came in the 74th minute, when Farmingdale doubled their advantage and seemingly sealed the match.Â
However, the hosts didn't go down without a fight.
In the 80th minute, they slashed that margin in half, whenÂ
Matthew Cuartas (FR/Greenwich, CT) found the back of the net off a feed from
Ermin Mackic (FR/Yonkers, NY).
With renewed life, the Blue and Orange threw more guys forward trying to find the equalizer, only for the guests to find a hole in the backline and extend the margin to 3-1 in the 85th minute.
Overall, the Panthers finished with 16 shots (11 on goal), while the Rams totaled 20 shots (12 on goal). In goal,
Jack Gjokaj (JR/Thornwood, NY) finished with nine saves in the effort.Â
Up next for Purchase is more Skyline action, as the squad travels to St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on October 14th. That match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
