Box Score PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback against St. Joseph's University (LI) in a Skyline Conference matchup hosted by the Golden Eagles Thursday night.
St. Joe's (6-2, 4-0) opened with a 3-0 run coming out of doubles play. The hosts kept the momentum going, quickly securing the match decision with a pair of wins to open singles. Allison Goodyear bested
Emma Arnaud (FR/Farmington, NY) 6-0, 6-2 at third singles, and Natalie Kopala notched the deciding point with a 6-1, 6-1 showing against
Amelia Perlmutter (FR/Rutherford, NJ) at the top flight.
Panther junior
Olivia Menchell (Los Angeles, CA) and sophomore
Sierra Blanco (SO/New York, NY) recorded the only two wins for Purchase on the night.
Blanco was the first to net the "w", cruising past Haley Celona 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Menchell rounded out the Panther scoring with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 victory over SJU's Angela Avecillas Martinez at the No. 2 spot.
Following Thursday's loss, Purchase (4-5, 2-3) dropped to No. 5 in Skyline standings. With playoff contention still within reach, the Panthers look to get back in the win column on Monday (Oct. 16) at third-seated Farmingdale State. The Skyline matchup, slated to start at 6 p.m., will conclude the regular season and decide the postseason fate for PC.
