PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team dropped a Skyline Conference contest Tuesday night, falling to the College of Mount Saint Vincent by the score of 4-1.
With the result, the Panthers now sit at 7-6-1 overall and 3-5-1. For the Dolphins, they advanced to 6-4-2 and 4-2-2, respectively.
While the two sides created nearly identical chances on the night, it was the guests that found the greater level of success.
After playing a nearly scoreless first half, a late strike pushed the advantage towards the way of Mount heading into the halftime break.
The 1-0 score continued in the second half until the 57th minute, when the guests doubled their advantage. Just six minutes later, Purchase allowed an own goal to push the margin to 3-0 to all but seal the game.
The Panthers did manage to get a goal back in the 81st minute, when
Liam George (JR/Brooklyn, NY) scored off a feed from
Ermin Mackic (FR/Yonkers, NY).
But the guests scored once more in the 88th minute, as the final score landed on 4-1.
In total, Purchase outshot Mount Saint Vincent, 20-18 overall, as the two sides each produced 11 shots on goal.
Individually, Mackic led the way with six shots, while George and
Tiago Vargas (FR/Elmsford, NY) each tallied five shots apiece. Â
In goal,
Jack Gjokaj (JR/Thornwood, NY) totaled eight saves in the effort.Â
Up next for the Panthers is the home finale, as the squad welcomes the United States Merchant Marine Academy on October 21st at 2:30 p.m.
