PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated at home Saturday afternoon, falling to the United States Merchant Marine Academy by the score of 2-0.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 7-7-1 overall and 3-6-1 in Skyline Conference matchups. For the Mariners, they moved to 6-4-7 and 5-0-5, respectively.
Saturday's contest marked the first time all season the Panthers were shutout, as the last time they failed to score came against Farmingdale back on October 15, 2022.
While the hosts didn't find the back of the net, they did manage to create numerous quality chances, only to be denied each time by the USMMA keeper, Ashton Carey.
Overall, the Panthers finished with nine shots (five on goal), as the Mariners totaled 23 shots (seven on goal). For the guests, they scored both goals off corner kick set-piece headers, with the first coming in the 16th minute and the second in the 70th.

Jack Gjokaj (JR/Thornwood, NY) finished with five saves, whileÂ
Ermin Mackic (FR/Yonkers, NY) tallied five shots (three on goal).
With the loss, Purchase was eliminated from Skyline Conference postseason contention.
Up next for the Panthers is the 2023 season finale, as the squad travels to Yeshiva University on October 25th at 8 p.m.
