OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — SUNY Old Westbury tallied five goals Wednesday afternoon, sending the Purchase College women's soccer team home with a 5-1 Skyline Conference defeat.
Purchase (4-8-4, 2-6 SKY) broke open the scoring on a Julieth Valasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) goal at 18:08, assisted by Emily Giron (FR/Newburgh, NY).
The visiting Panthers held the 1-0 edge until Old Westbury (6-10, 2-7 SKY) broke through at 30:36 to even the score. Jessica Pedroza knocked one in off the feed from Alyse Then.
Back-to-back own goals committed by Purchase over the next 10 minutes of play quickly turned a close matchup into a deficit the visitors were unable to claw back from.
Old Westbury went on to score a pair of second-half goals while holding PC scoreless en route to the 5-1 win. Mikayla Crosier gave the hosts their fourth goal. Then recorded the assist and later netted the fifth and final goal after connecting on the pass from Mia Almonte at 85:19.
Old Westbury held a 22-12 shot advantage (14-5 on goal), led by Then with five shots on target.
Purchase returns to its home turf on Oct. 21 at noon to host Skyline opponent Mount Saint Mary College.
