BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated at St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn Thursday night, dropping the Skyline Conference matchup in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-8, 25-21 and 25-16. With the result, the Panthers moved to 4-17 overall and 2-8 in the league. For the Bears, they advanced to 5-10 and 3-5, respectively.Â
After a tough opening set, it looked like the Blue and Orange might be in for a rough night. However, the squad battled hard over the final two frames, making it a tight contest the rest of the way.
The middle set saw the two sides go back and forth to begin, before the hosts edged ahead with a five-point run to make it 16-10.
While Purchase wasn't able to jump in front, they did manage to trim the margin to three points on numerous occasions before finally falling, 25-21.
In the last frame, the teams once again played a close matchup until the very end, when the Bears scored 10 of the last 12 points to seal the victory.
Overall, Purchase finished with 10 kills in the effort. Leading the way was
Ava Landreth (FR/Brooklyn, NY) with four kills, while
Marcella Pena (FR/Bronx, NY) added three kills.
Natalia Leite (FR/Thornwood, NY) totaled eight assists and two aces, as
Lilith Bastek-Ochoa (JR/Sag Harbor, NY) and
Maya Brown (FR/Carteret, NJ) each tallied 11 digs apiece.
