Panthers Earn Senior Night Draw vs. Old Westbury

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team earned a hard-fought draw Tuesday night, as the Panthers tied SUNY Old Westbury 1-1 on Senior Night.

With the result, the Blue and Orange moved to 7-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference. For the Green and White, they moved to 2-6-1 and 0-4-1, respectively.

Before the contest began, Purchase celebrated its lone senior - Noah Siega (Houston, TX) - with a ceremony that had photos and a speech. At the end, he was gifted items from the team, before they prepared for the task at hand.

Once the action began, the two sides embarked on an epic battle. While opening 45 minutes failed to produce a goal, the second half was filled with action.

In the 64th minute, Old Westbury broke the deadlock by scoring off a corner kick, putting the Panthers in the unusual position of having to play catchup.

While the Blue and Orange responded by throwing more bodies forward on offense, the guests matched it defensively by parking the bus to try and prevent the equalizer.

They nearly succeeded in that effort too, until Purchase finally broke through in the 86th minute on a penalty shot.

Reigning Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Ermin Mackic (FR/Yonkers, NY) provided the goal as he blasted it into the bottom right of the net. Siega played a major role in the Senior Night draw as he was the player fouled in the box to earn the penalty.

Following the strike, and with the game level once more, the Panthers pushed for the winning goal. They nearly found it in the 89th minute too, but a point-blank save and shot that was just high settled the result.

In the end, Purchase outshot Old Westbury, 27-10 overall and 10-4 on goal. In goal, Jack Gjokaj (JR/Thornwood, NY) finished with three saves.

Up next for the Blue and Orange is a road Skyline Conference matchup at Mount Saint Mary College on October 7th at 1 p.m.
