PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team rallied to edge Sarah Lawrence, 5-4, in a Skyline Conference match at home Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Panthers advance to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline, while the Gryphons drop to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.
The Panthers trailed 2-1 coming out of doubles but rallied with a quick two points to open singles.
Senior
Elaina Coppola (White Plains, NY) tied the match (2-2) with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles. Sophomore
Novalie Nguyen (Macedon, NY) followed a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at sixth singles to give PC a 3-2 edge over the Gryphons.
Sarah Lawrence fired back with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top spot to even the score, 3-3, but the Panthers collected the next two points to secure the Skyline victory.
Sierra Blanco (SO/New York, NY) battled to a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) triumph at fifth singles before
Emma Arnaud (SO/Farmington, NY) recorded the match-winner at No. 3 by a score of 6-4, 6-3, 6-0.
Purchase returns to its home courts again tomorrow to take on the Knights of Mount Saint Mary. The Skyline Conference match, a reschedule from Sept. 23, is slated to start at 6:30 p.m.
