Panthers Pounce on Pratt, 61-55

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team secured a tight road win Tuesday evening, outpacing Pratt Institute by the score of 61-55.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 2-2 overall. For the Cannoneers, they dropped to 2-4 on the young season.

The beginning of the night saw a handful of lead changes, before Pratt emerged with its biggest lead of the contest, 14-9, with 11:36 remaining in the first half.

Over the remainder of the half, the Blue and Orange completely flipped the script by outscoring the hosts, 23-6, to take a 32-20 advantage into the halftime break.

From there, the Panthers maintained the lead for much of the second half, as the Cannoneers slowly but surely closed the gap.

With just under the five minutes to go, the hosts grabbed their first lead since early in the opening period, going ahead 49-48.

However, on the ensuing trip down the court, Purchase senior guard Mahamadou Nimaga (Bronx, NY) nailed a 3-pointer to retake the lead and put the guests ahead for good.

The action remained tight over the final four minutes, but in the end, the Blue and Orange emerged with the road win, 61-55.

Overall, the squad had an off-night offensively, shooting just 29% from the field and 20% on 3-pointers. Pratt didn't fair much better, shooting 35% and 29%, respectively.

The difference for Purchase was defense. For the game, the Panthers forced the hosts into 30 turnovers, while committing just 11 of their own.

Individually, Isaac Johnson (SR/Bronx, NY) finished with a team-high 15 points, while adding six rebounds and two steals.

Nimaga added 12 points and six rebounds, while Matthew Phillips (JR/Bronx, NY) collected 10 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

Up next for the Blue and Orange is a nine-day break for Thanksgiving, as they will return to the court on November 30th to host Five Towns College at 7 p.m.
