PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College fell to visiting St. Joseph's University (LI), 84-57, in Skyline Conference women's basketball action Wednesday evening.
St. Joe's (5-1, 3-0 SKY) shot 40 percent (8-of-20) from the field in the opening 10 minutes and continued to connect in the second stanza to stretch their lead to 37-22 at halftime.
After the break, the Golden Eagle offense erupted with their best shooting of the night—firing in 75 percent from the field (12-of-16), 60 percent from beyond the arc (3-of-5) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (4-of-6). As a recult, the visitors closed the third quarter with a comfortable 34-point advantage (68-34).
The Panthers (0-7, 0-5 SKY) found their footing late in the game, erupting with a 23-16 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter. Their notable run was not enough however, as the slow start loomed large in the game's outcome.
SJU's Julianna Knice led all scorers with 19 points. Megan Spina added 15 points and four rebounds, while Casey Travers and Catherine Siounis also reached double-digit scoring with 11 points each.
For Purchase,
Kendall Larsen (FR/Staten Island, NY) recorded a team-best 17 points while also collecting five boards and a pair of steals.
Kaylena Phagnasay (FR/Fresno, CA) came off the bench to notch 15 points and four rebounds, while
Charlee Neb (SO/Longmont, CO) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points.
The Panthers return to their home court this Sunday to host Yeshiva University at noon.
