MADISON, N.J. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets Monday night, falling at Drew University in a non-conference matchup.
Set scores for the contest were 25-20, 25-2 and 25-5. With the result, the Panthers dropped to 2-5 overall, while the Rangers moved to 5-4.
To begin, it was actually the guests that enjoyed the early advantage after scoring four of the first five points.
However, Drew quickly rallied and eventually took the lead with a four-point run, turning an 8-7 deficit into an 11-8 lead.
From there, the Panthers held firm and trimmed the margin to just a single point, 14-13, but that was as close as they got the rest of the set. The hosts then answered with a 7-1 run to jump ahead, 21-14, eventually sealing the set by the score of 25-20.
Following the frame, things completely changed for the Panthers over sets two and three, as they couldn't find any answers on offense. While Purchase struggled, Drew enjoyed the match of its life, recording a mind-boggling .846 hitting percentage in set two.
For the game,
Marcus Garguilo (SO/Port Washington, NY) and
Luca Spadinger (FR/Loundonville, NY) each tallied two kills apiece, while
Idris Idris (SR/Bronx, NY) added nine digs and five assists.Â
Up next for the men's volleyball team is a return to its home court as the squad welcomes Bard College on February 15th. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m. and you can follow along right here.Â
