PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College outscored the University of St. Joseph men's lacrosse, 5-1, in the fourth quarter but was unable to erase a costly first-half deficit in an 11-7 non-conference loss Saturday afternoon.
Purchase (1-3) went scoreless for the first 42 minutes and allowed USJ (3-2) run up a 10-0 lead before finally breaking through on an unassisted goal from
Joe Ely (SR/North Salem, NY) in the third quarter.
Kevon Joseph (FR/Brooklyn, NY) hit the upper net a minute later after collecting a pass from
Andrew Agosto (SO/Poughkeepsie, NY).
Trailing 10-2 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Panthers erupted with five unanswered goals in less than 10 minutes to come within three (10-7) of the Blue Jays. The rally was snapped by a USJ goal around the two minute mark to secure the 11-7 decision.
Freshman midfielder Nick Pestrichello paced the USJ attack with a career-high five goals, including the game-winner.

Zach Collins (SO/Victor, NY) recorded his first hat trick of the season with three goals off seven shots and one cause turnover. Ely found the back of the net on his two attempts and added one assist and four ground balls. Joseph and
Shakim Carr (FR/Brooklyn, NY) chipped in with one goal each, while Carr, Agosto and
Cristian Ishoo (5th/Tarrytown, NY) combined for a trio of assists.
Will Boes (SO/Pleasantville, NY) played every minute in goal for Purchase, tallying 12 saves while allowing 11 goals. With the result, he moved to 1-3 overall.
Senior Trey McCann played the entire first half for USJ, allowing no goals while making three saves to improve to 3-2 on the year. Sophomore Nick Schilling played 21:16 in goal, tallying four saves while allowing five goals. Senior Jayme Hollimion played the remainder of the game in net, recording a save and allowing two goals.
The Panthers look to get back to their winning ways when they return home this Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup under the lights against Rosemont College.
