PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference games Saturday afternoon, falling to the College of Mount Saint Vincent and St. Joseph's University-Long Island on the road.
Game One: Mount Saint Vincent 3, Purchase 1 - 25-12, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22
In the first game of the day for the Panthers, the Blue and Orange dropped the opening two sets before rallying in set three to extend the contest.
During the frame, Purchase scored the final four points of the set to secure the win, and had three separate three-point runs throughout.
From there, the Dolphins regained their early form to closeout the Panthers in set four to take the contest.
For the game, Purchase hit .029 overall with 29 kills, while the Dolphins collected totals of .149 and 42, respectively.
Individually,
Chris Posillico (SR/Saltaire, NY) and
Luca Spadinger (FR/Loundonville, NY) each finished with 10 points apiece, while
Idris Idris (SR/Bronx, NY) added 25 assists and nine digs.
Game Two: St. Joseph's-Long Island 3, Purchase 0 - 25-10, 25-13, 25-14
Following the defeat, Purchase was right back in action, this time against the defending Skyline Conference champions, the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's University-Long Island.
From the start, the contest favored the hosts, as the Golden Eagles soared to victory in all three sets. For the match, the Panthers finished with 11 kills compared to 38 kills for the hosts.Â
Individually,
Marcus Garguilo (SO/Port Washington, NY) recorded four kills and four digs, while
Jasper Zeray (SO/Brooklyn, NY) added three kills and four digs in the effort.
In the first game of the day, SJU-Long Island bested Mount Saint Vincent in straight sets.
Following the three games, the Panthers now sit at 4-11 overall and 2-2 in Skyline action.
For the Dolphins, they are now 6-9 and 3-1, respectively, while the Golden Eagles are 10-7 and 4-0, respectively.
Up next for Purchase is more Skyline Conference action, as the squad welcomes these same Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's-Long Island for a single match on March 16th.
