Idris Tops Milestone; Panthers Fall to St. Joseph's-LI

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Purchase College senior setter Idris Idris crossed a major milestone Thursday night - 1,000 career assists, during the Panthers' loss to St. Joseph's University-Long Island in straight sets.

Idris (Bronx, NY) entered the contest with 999 assists and broke the mark on the Panthers' first point of the night.

He amassed the assist total throughout his Purchase tenure by recording 251 in 2020, 471 in 2022 and 289 so far this season.

The mark is even more impressive when you consider that the 2020 season was severely shortened due to Covid and the entire 2021 season was lost to the pandemic.

Following the record-breaking mark, Idris finished with 12 assists to push his career total to 1,011.

As for the rest of the night, the Panthers were outpaced by the Golden Eagles by the scores of 25-5, 25-14 and 25-10.

The hosts recorded 14 kills on -.038 hitting, while the guests compiled 44 kills on .432 hitting.

Individually, Marcus Garguilo (SO/Port Washington, NY) collected team-high marks in kills (5) and digs (6), while Jasper Zeray (SO/Brooklyn, NY) and Luca Spadinger (FR/Loudonville, NY) each added three kills apiece.

With the result, the hosts dropped to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in the Skyline Conference. For the Golden Eagles, they now sit at 11-7 and 5-0, respectively.

Up next for the Panthers is the team's lone home tri-match of the season, as they welcome New Jersey City University and St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn to campus on March 18th.

Purchase will play at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with the neutral-site game taking place at noon. You can follow all the action right here.
