DUDLEY, MA - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team opened the 2023 season with a loss Monday night, falling to Nichols College by the score of 23-3.
With the result, the Panthers now sit at 0-1, while the Bison moved to 3-0.
Nichols dominated from the get-go Monday, scoring the first seven goals of the night and 12 of the first 13 overall. At halftime, the hosts led 13-2, before sealing the win with ten more goals in the second half.
For the Panthers,
Alyssa Kozak (JR/East Meadow, NY) led the way with three points (2g, 1a) and two draw controls.
Julieth Velasquez (FR/White Plains, NY) recorded the other Purchase goal in her first collegiate game, whileÂ
Brienne Westfall (SR/Grand Island, NY) added an assist and a ground ball.
On defense,Â
Ali Salinas (JR/West Hempstead, NY) and
Leah Dwyer (SR/Glen Cove, NY) each caused a pair of turnovers.
In goal,Â
Casandra Schmoger (SR/Islip, NY) tallied eight saves and four ground balls.
Up next for Purchase is more non-conference road action, as the team travels to Connecticut to battle the University of Saint Joseph on March 16th.
