Men's Tennis Drops Non-Conference Match to Baruch

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase men's tennis team dropped a non-conference home match to Baruch College, 7-2, Thursday afternoon.

Action opened with competitive doubles play in all three matchups. Purchase (1-1) got on the board with a triumphant 8-4 decision at the top spot, thanks to the dynamic duo of Julian Szuper (5th/New York, NY) and Eli Palagatshev (FR/Yonkers, NY).

Baruch (3-1) recorded 8-2 and 8-6 wins at second and third doubles, respectively, to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

The visitors erupted with a quick three points after sweeping third, fourth and fifth singles. The trio of scores put the Bearcats at a 5-1 advantage, securing the non-conference win.

First and third singles would also tilt in Baruch's favor. Christopher Tham battled Szuper for a 6-1, 3-6, 10-5 decision at the top spot, while Juan Paredes bested Purchase senior Ben Joory (Port Washington, NY), 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 3 position.

Palagatshev netted the lone win for Purchase in singles action after battling Jim Bauer for a 7-6 (7-1), 2-6, 13-4 victory.

Up next, Purchase will travel to John Jay College this Saturday to take on the Bloodhounds in a non-conference matchup starting at 4 p.m.
