Men's Volleyball Defeated Twice at Tri-Match

MAHWAH, N.J. - The Purchase College men's volleyball lost a pair of Skyline Conference matchups Sunday afternoon, falling to Yeshiva University and Ramapo College.

Game One: Yeshiva 3, Purchase 0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-23)

Despite the final score, the Panthers stayed neck and neck with the Maccabees throughout, before ultimately succumbing to the foe.

In set one, the difference came via an 8-1 run that flipped a 13-12 Purchase lead into a 21-14 deficit.

Set two was even closer, as neither side led by more than four points.

In the end, Purchase was on the cusp with set point, 25-24, but couldn't seal the deal. The Macs then answered with three-straight points to win the frame and take a commanding, 2-0 lead.

The final stanza of the day was another nail-biter, as the Panthers fell right at the end. Following the back and forth battle, Yeshiva created some space for itself and collected match point, 24-20.

However, the Blue and Orange continued to fight, scoring three points in a row, before a Macs' kill finally sealed the match, 25-23.

Overall, Purchase finished with 30 kills on .034 hitting in the effort.

Individually, Marcus Garguilo (SO/Port Washington, NY) finished with a match-high 13 kills, while Jasper Zeray (SO/Brooklyn, NY) collected eight kills and a team-high 18 digs.

Idris Idris (SR/Bronx, NY) added 26 assists and 13 digs in the loss.

Game Two: Ramapo 3, Purchase 0 (25-9, 25-8, 25-11)

In the final game of the afternoon, the Roadrunners of Ramapo cruised to a victory, as Purchase struggled to hit from the very beginning.

Overall, the Panthers finished with 11 kills and recorded a negative hitting percentage. In the effort, Luca Spadinger (FR/Loudonville, NY) finished with four kills and eight digs.

Garguilo added three kills, two aces and nine digs, while Idris tallied 10 assists and seven digs.

In the first game of the day, Ramapo swept Yeshiva in straight sets. With the results, the Panthers dropped to 4-18 overall and 2-8 in Skyline Conference matchups.

For the Roadrunners, they now sit at 16-7 and 9-1, respectively. For the Macs, they are now 6-15 and 3-9.
