PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's tennis team defeated visiting Western Connecticut State University, 7-2, in a non-conference matchup Thursday evening. With the victory, the Panthers move to 4-3 on the season, while the Wolves fall to 2-4 overall.
Purchase jumped out to an early lead, tallying wins at first and third doubles. The Panther duo of
Julian Szuper (5th/New York, NY) and
Eli Palagatshev (FR/Yonkers, NY) downed Kevin Tenesaca and Aidan Burke, 8-2, at the No. 1 spot, while
Oliver Culliton (SO/Boston, MA) and
Steve Mains (SO/Mount Kisco, NY) picked up an 8-2 win at the No. 3 position.
The Panthers went on to collect five more wins in singles action, clinching the match-decision with
Yuta Kawamura's (FR/Greenwich, CT) 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 comeback victory at the No. 4 spot.
Purchase will travel to non-conference Lehman College on Monday for a 3:30 p.m. start.
