BRONX, N.Y. – Purchase College continued its winning ways on Monday with a 7-2 non-conference victory over host Lehman College at the APEX Tennis Center.
The Panthers (5-3) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead following doubles action. First to finish was the No. 1 duo of
Julian Szuper (5th/New York, NY) and
Eli Palagatshev (FR/Yonkers, NY), who teamed up for an 8-0 sweep over Christian Agudo and Steven Forte. Panther rookies
Yuta Kawamura (FR/Greenwich, CT) and
Steve Mains (SO/Mount Kisco, NY) recorded the second tally of the day—and second 8-0 shutout performance for PC—at the No. 2 position.
Lehman (1-4) won third doubles and sixth singles by forfeit.
Tagged with the penalties due to players' class schedules, the remaining five Panthers fired in a complete sweep over the remaining five singles matches.
Kawamura notched the first singles win, 6-0, 6-1, at the third flight. Palagatshev was next in line with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 performance at the No. 2 spot. Mains secured the match-decision following a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles.
Oliver Culliton (SO/Boston, MA) and Szuper rounded off the Panther scoring with victories at fourth and first singles, respectively.
Purchase will return to its home courts on Saturday (Apr. 8) for a Skyline Conference match against St. Joseph's University-Long Island. Match start is slated for 11 a.m.
